Tabrecta (Capmatinib)

Description

Tabrecta (Capmatinib) is a prescription drug classified as a kinase inhibitor. It targets non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in adults where the cancer has metastasized and cannot be removed by surgery. By blocking proteins on the MET gene in cancer cells, this medication may help slow tumor growth. Doctors and healthcare providers typically test for this gene before prescribing Tabrecta.

Directions

Take Tabrecta orally as directed by a healthcare provider. The standard dosage is 400 mg taken twice daily, amounting to a total of 800 mg per day. Swallow the tablets whole without crushing or chewing them. Tabrecta tablets may be taken with or without food. If a dose is missed within 12 hours of the next dose, skip it and proceed with the regular dosing schedule.

Ingredients

Tabrecta contains the active ingredient Capmatinib. Inactive ingredients may also be included that improve the drug’s absorption into the body. These ingredients may include magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide, and mannitol, among others.

Cautions

• Before starting Tabrecta, tell your doctor about:
• Any other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, or herbal supplements.
• Existing health conditions, particularly liver problems.
• Pregnancy or intent to become pregnant. Tabrecta may be harmful to a developing fetus.
• If you are breastfeeding. The medication could pass into breast milk and potentially harm a nursing baby.

• Watch for any new or worsening symptoms in your lungs, such as difficulty breathing or coughing, as these could indicate interstitial lung disease (ILD) or pneumonitis. If these symptoms arise, Tabrecta should be stopped permanently.
• Tabrecta can affect liver health (hepatotoxicity). You may need regular liver function tests while on this medication. Depending on the liver test results, your doctor might adjust your dose or stop Tabrecta altogether.
• There's also a risk of pancreatic toxicity. Your healthcare provider will monitor your amylase and lipase levels to check your pancreatic function. Depending on the test results, your treatment plan may be adjusted.
• If you experience any hypersensitivity reactions, such as rash, itching, or difficulty breathing, Tabrecta may need to be paused or stopped based on how severe the reaction is.
• Tabrecta can increase your sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity). It's recommended to limit your exposure to direct sunlight and UV rays to prevent skin reactions.
• Tabrecta may harm an unborn baby. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, discuss this risk with your doctor. Use effective contraception during treatment to prevent pregnancy.

Side Effects

Tabrecta may cause a range of side effects. The most common Tabrecta side effects include headache, muscle or bone pain, and swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet. Patients might also experience cough, decreased appetite, nausea, and vomiting.

The medication can also lead to more serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention. This includes lung or breathing problems such as inflammation of the lungs, which can be fatal. Symptoms of lung issues include a new or worsening cough, fever, and difficulty breathing. In addition, Tabrecta may cause liver problems, with symptoms like yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, and fatigue. Any new or worsening health concerns should always be discussed with a healthcare provider.
